The drive pedal that ends the guesswork
"What should my first effects pedal be?"
"I want a drive I can rely on as my main sound in a band."
Cullate's answer to both is
Vin-Antique PPSE'79.
With so many drive pedals out there, why choose PPSE'79?
How does having just this one pedal change your tone?
Here's how Cullate sees the appeal of this pedal.
Reassuring, and easy to use
What stands out first is just how intuitive it is to use.
Even within "overdrive," guitar distortion covers an endless range of tones —
a versatile all-purpose drive, one beloved within a specific genre, one that boosts a particular frequency range, and so on.
Among all of these, PPSE'79 fits the description "the drive that makes you want to strum chords on a single-coil guitar" perfectly.
Magic that makes any room comfortable
For many guitarists, the first hurdle is tone-shaping on whatever amp happens to be at the studio.
Many players have felt their guitar sound thin, or found it harsh on the ears, depending on the JC-120 or Marshall they're facing.
PPSE'79 acts almost like a "treatment" for that stress.
- With Marshall-type amps:
Firmly reinforces the low-mids that tend to get scooped out, building a thick core that won't get lost in the band. - With a JC-120:
Its distinctive high-end presence smooths out the JC's characteristic hardness — adding sparkle while lifting it into a softer, easier sound on the ears.
Behind the price: a maker's obsession and conscience
PPSE'79 comes at a striking price — in the low ¥10,000s.
In an age where a ¥30,000-50,000 pedal is the norm, how is this even possible?
It comes down to Vin-Antique founder Miyazaki's belief: "I want students to hear the real thing too."
Not "cheap and decent," but "great, made affordable."
Moved by that attitude toward music, Cullate began working with Vin-Antique.

Product Info
Vin-Antique's flagship model, "PPSE '79."
Built on a traditional TS-style sound, this overdrive pushes the wide dynamic range and smooth, pleasant sheen that modern guitarists want to their limit.
Whether it's your first pedal or the main drive on a carefully built board — plug in, and the doubt disappears, leaving you free to play. It's that kind of "right answer."
Control
Tone: Adjusts the high end (treble to presence). Since it focuses on a higher range than the original TS, we recommend starting fully counter-clockwise and adding sheen gradually from there.
Gain: Adjusts the amount of drive. As you raise the gain, the low end pushes harder too, making it great for beefing up solos.
Vol.: Adjusts the overall volume. Beyond simple volume control, turning it clockwise also works remarkably well as a booster that pushes the high-mids.
Origin switch: Inside the enclosure is a switch that recreates the raw, wild sound of the Ver.1 era. It ships ON, letting you enjoy the edgy tone that defines PPSE's origin. If you play a guitar with a strong character of its own, like a Jazzmaster, flipping the switch to the left settles the tone into a more manageable balance.
